How does one effectively protect assets? Attorney Howard Rosen shares the answer with Florida attorneys.

February 17, 2016

With the rising popularity of asset protection trusts as a vehicle for protecting wealth, lawyer and author Howard Rosen is a busy man educating fellow attorneys on offshore asset protection planning and his practice. His most recent seminar was hosted by the Estate Planning Council of Greater Miami, held at the University of Miami on February 9th, 2016. His program, titled “Asset Protection Planning with Offshore Trusts” is one of several programs he has been delivering to attorneys in increasing numbers.

“Educating attorneys about the benefits of offshore asset protection planning is good for them and their clients,” says Rosen, whose 42 year trust practice has been focused on offshore asset protection planning for over 25 years. “There are more foreign jurisdictions getting in the game, there are more trust companies, and there are more attorneys than ever marketing domestic and foreign asset protection. With the wealth of information—and disinformation—available to practitioners, I am happy to share my experience and expertise with them and their clients.”

Rosen and his partner Patricia Donlevy-Rosen have been implementing offshore trusts in the Cook Islands for over 25 years. When asked about domestic asset protection options, Rosen responds “domestic trusts are not bulletproof like properly implemented offshore trusts. They are subject to a U.S. court jurisdiction, and can be negated through involuntary bankruptcy up to ten years after their establishment. Relying on domestic trusts is like relying on an airbag that only works certain days of the week.”

The program at the University of Miami is one of several already scheduled for Rosen in 2016. In January he spoke at an invitational luncheon at the Heckerling Estate Planning Conference in Orlando, and addressed a California regional bar association. He will also be the guest speaker at meetings of Florida regional bar associations in West Palm Beach and Panama City. Donlevy-Rosen will be a featured speaker at the 2016 Collier County Bar Estate Planning Symposium.

Upcoming speaking events:

• South Palm Beach Bar (Boca Raton, FL) – April 27th, 2016.
• Collier County Bar (Naples, FL) – April 29th, 2016.
• Bay County Bar Association (Panama City, FL) – May 4th, 2016.
